Das Künstlerduo Empfangshalle (Corbinian Böhm und Michael Gruber) hat im Juli 2018 den Projektraum „Galerie von Empfangshalle“ eröffnet und Maria Justus als Kuratorin des neu entstandenen Projektraumes beauftragt.
Überhaupt einen angemessenen Arbeitsort in München zu etablieren, ist bereits ein Kunstwerk. Darüber hinaus macht die Galerie von Empfangshalle – außerhalb von kommerziellen und institutionellen Strukturen – künstlerische Experimente sichtbar, die sich dem öffentlichen Diskurs stellen. Das große Galerieschaufenster in der belebten Theresienstraße lädt Passanten zum Innehalten und zum Eintreten ein, egal ob zufällig oder geplant.
Die erste Veranstaltung in der Galerie von Empfangshalle fand im Juli 2018 statt. Das chinesische Künstlerduo Han Tang und Xiaopeng Zhou zeigten ihre Videoarbeit über Foodcarving in China als Spiegelbild der aktuellen Gesellschaft. Dazu bekochten sie die Gäste mit traditionellen Speisen aus ihrer Heimatstadt Guangzhou.
Darauf folgte eine eng getaktete Performancereihe, die sich mit dem Thema „Vernetzung“ medien-übergreifend auseinandersetzte. Zum Jahresabschluss 2018 stellten 60 Künstler*innen aus Berlin und München unter dem Titel „Spätgaben“ ihre Arbeiten aus.
Zum Kunstarealfest 2019 hat die Empfangshalle die Aktion „Alles muss rein“ konzipiert und organisiert. Über 200 Münchner Künstler*innen haben ihre Werke auf einer Protestprozession durch das Kunstareal transportiert. Ziel war die Galerie von Empfangshalle, die natürlich viel zu klein für alle Objekte war und so den Platzmangel für Ateliers in München verbildlichte. Den anarchistischen Ausstellungs- aufbau begleiteten Konzerte auf der Straße.
Seit der Gründung der Galerie fanden insgesamt siebzehn Ausstellungen und Performances von Künstler*innen aus der ganzen Welt statt.
In July 2018, the artist duo behind the Galerie von Empfangshalle (Corbinian Böhm and Michael Gruber) opened the project space „Galerie von Empfangshalle“ and invited Maria Justus as a curator of this emerging project space .
To establish a place to work in Munich is already a work of art, in addition, the Galerie von Empfangshalle makes artistic experiments possible. It goes outside of commercial and institutional structures giving visibility to the artists, confronting the public discourse. The large gallery window in the busy Theresienstrasse invites passers-by to pause and enter, whether by chance or by design.
The first event in the Galerie von Empfangshalle took place in July 2018. The Chinese artist duo Han Tang and Xiaopeng Zhou showed their video work about food carving in China as a reflection of the current society. For this purpose, they cooked traditional dishes from their hometown Guangzhou for the guests. This was followed by a closely timed series of performances that dealt with the theme of „networking“ across all media.
To close out 2018, 60 artists from Berlin and Munich exhibited their work under the title „Spätgaben“. „Spätgaben“ was a cooperation with the Berlin artist and curator Manuel Kirsch and the project space SOX.
For the Kunstarealfest 2019, Galerie von Empfangshalle conceived of and organized the action „Alles muss rein“ where over 200 Munich artists transported their works on a protest procession through the Kunstareal. The destination was the Galerie von Empfangshalle, which was far too small for all the objects and thus illustrated the lack of studio space in Munich. The anarchistic exhibitions were accompanied by concerts in the street.
Since the founding of the gallery, a total of seventeen exhibitions and performances by artists from all over the world, have taken place.
